Department of Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry came into existence in 1971 and over a period of time, it has emerged as one of the premier department not only of the University, but has also acquired prestigious status even at National Level. The Department offers courses of B.Sc. (Hons. School), M.Sc. (Hons. School), M.Sc. (Instrumental Analysis) and M.Sc. Industrial Chemistry. The semester system with external evaluation of answers sheets is followed for teaching the courses. In each masters programme, the persuing of independent research in final year and submission of dissertation is distinguished feature. The dissertation is defended by the candidate before a committee of experts. Also each student of masters programme delivers a seminar on contemporary theme under the guidance of a teacher.
The Department has been adopted by the UGC under Special Assistance Programme (SAP) and by DST under Improvement of Science & Technology (FIST) Program. Under this program, an Internet Lab. has been established for the use of the teachers and the students for academic and research purposes. The Department is under active consideration of the University Grants Commission for upgradation from SAP to Centre for Advance Studies level and shall shortly be implemented. The Departmental Library has a collection of 16500 books / reference books with regular subscription of 28 journals. The Department also runs a Book Bank, which lends books to the students for the entire session. The faculty of the Department have been sanctioned several projects by various funding agencies like CSIR, UGC, DAE, DST, DBT and DRDO.
