The Department of Hindi is one of the oldest Departments in our university established in 1969. It runs classes for M.A. Hindi and M. Phil Degree and provides research facilities leading to Ph.D.

More than 200 researchers of the Department have been awarded the degree of Ph.D. near about 230 have been awarded the degree of M.Phil. More than 250 students of the Department are serving as the professors, readers & lecturers in different universities, Government and Non-government colleges in all over India particularly in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, Maharashtra, Kerla and Union territories i.e. Chandigarh, Pondicherry and Andeman Niccobar. Our students are also working as correspondents of many important newspapers of India.

The Department, has organized 22 National and Regional Seminars/ Conferences and five Refresher Courses. Celebration of Hindi Diwas is the regular feature of the Deptt.
Notable feature of the Department includes formation of 'Prem Chand Hindi Sahitya Parishad' for literary Development of students. Weekly Departmental Seminars are organized by the Parishad. The Department also provides necessary and latest information through Wall Magazine.

Facilities Available:

Research facilities are available in the fields of classical & modern theories of literary criticism, sociology of literature, linguistics, stylistics and poetics, modern and medieval literature (all forms), Hindi literature in Gurmukhi script, Indian culture and literature, aesthetics and mythology, comparative literature, drama and theatre, folk literature and other allied subjects.
