Department of Laws
The Department of Laws at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar
was established in the year 1972 as an evening institution having
LL.B. Course for employed students only. In 1982, the department
started the morning classes and in 1983, teaching of LL.M. was
started. The Department now offer Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) and Master
of Laws (LL.M.) Course. LL.M. Two years Course is open to full-time
students only. There is also a provision for research leading to Ph.D.
Degree.
By now, nearly seven thousand five hundred students have obtained
LL.B. Degree from the Department. Nearly one hundred and fifty
students have completed LL.M. and more than 30 students have been
awarded degree of Ph.D. Besides, four hundred students have completed
Post-Graduate Diploma in Taxation Law.
Many of the former students of the Law Department are now occupying
prominent places in the Indian Administrative Services (IAS), Indian
Foreign Service (IFS) Indian Police Service (IPS) and other Allied
Services as well as in the State Civil and Judicial Services. A
sizeable majority has joined the legal profession and a few of them
have joined the academic and teaching profession.

Department also possesses certain precious assets in the form of very
knowledgeable and hardworking faculty, excellent and well equipped
library, a well maintained computer lab which provides access to
students and staff.
