The Department of Mathematics, established in 1970, has a team of faculty members with expertise in diverse area of Mathematics. It offers courses leading to M.Sc. Degrees in Mathematics & Statistics. Department also looks after the Mathematical/Statistics components in nine other university departments. Department provides research facilities in the area of Approximation theory, Functional Analysis, Applied Functional Analysis- Applications to Industry and Finance, Information theory, Operational research, Multiple comparisons, Wavelet Analysis, Ranking & Selection Procedures, Queuing theory, Sampling Theory, Dynamical System and Instabilities in Fluids etc.

Department provides internet & computer lab facility to M.Sc. Mathematics and Statistics Students. Also the department of Mathematics has joint library with Physics department in the physics department building.
